Whetu-Whenu-Whenua
In the week of Matariki 12 students were invited to attend a workshop at Lopdell House Gallery with the artist from the current exhibition - Whetu-Whenu-Whenua. Maureen Lander talked the students through the meaning of Matariki and the relevance of the stars and her evolving installation in the window of the gallery - Starweaver. The public were invited to come in and make stars to add to the installation and it has grown over the past weeks with many stars being added - hanging from the weaving and placed on the wall. Messages of love to ones who have past are written on the 'star dust' (trimmings from the stars) and sprinkled on the floor under the weaving.
STARS FOR STEPHEN
For many of our students this was an appropriate time to remember Stephen Dudley, and lovely messages to Stephen were written on the star dust.
Our students really enjoyed this experience so we decided to enable all of our students to make a star for this exhibition.
Lopdell house will be sending all of the stars to Melbourne shortly to be part of a large international exhibition called ONE MILLION STARS TO END VIOLENCE.
